Halfway reflection

This course requires you to be very open about your self and it definitely makes you get out of your comfort zone. While taking this course I have realized it is best to just be yourself and speak your mind. I do not enjoy interviewing people or having to ask an extensive amount of questions. But, you have to get past that and do it for yourself, for a grade and to better your personal skills. 1 tip, get ahead of the work. 2. Make sure to be comfortable with and around other people. 3. Be creative!

Reading Reflection No. 1

1) You read about an entrepreneur: Steve Jobs
  • What surprised you the most? I did not know that jobs was a ad student. As smart as he was, he hated school and going to classes. It is crazy how someone so smart can dislike school as much as Jobs did.
  • What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? Steve Jobs was a weird guy. He didn't care about what people thought about him. He was always looking for ways to make a dollar off something. He knew he was intelligent and he had great ideas but he was waiting for the right opportunity to show up for him.
  • What about the entrepreneur did you least admire? He would sometimes take others ideas and creations and claim them as his own.
  • Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it? Jobs was demoted to non-executive chairman of the board and was no longer allowed to control any of the projects. He continued to fight for what he wanted his company to be and no matter his position, he made sure to get his idea thrown in the pot.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited? Jobs had a remarkable imagination. He visioned the best for his company. He was also passionate about what he wanted for his company and the projects he was working on.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you. I don't understand why Jobs would not run the business himself. Obviously with the help of others in certain areas. But, Jobs be the head man.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why? 1. Why did Jobs feel that he was too immature to run Apple himself? He was a genius, running a company should be that hard. Its crazy that a guy with his attitude didn't think he could run a business. 2. What other ideas did Jobs have other than the Macintosh? Were there other designs or ideas in making this great computer? I think it would be a cool thing to know.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion? I think Steve Jobs opinion of hard work is having charisma and being excited in what ever it is you are working on and trying to achieve. Working hard to make your product the best on the market.

Elevator Pitch No. 1

For my opportunity I have decided to focus on a portable mosquito repellant device that plugs into cigarette lighters on off road vehicles and can be mounted anywhere on the vehicle. The name of the business will be "Bug Off Portables"
